National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute (NTCRI) has carried out Taiwan crafts workshop selections for five times between 2004 and 2012. Up to this day, the audition of Taiwan Crafts Workshop has selected 140 craft workshops and officially awarded them with certification and plaque.
Crafts workshops including ceramics, wood carving, metal work, clay sculptures, weaving and dyeing, bamboo and rattan weaving, lacquer ware, glass, painting, stone carving, cobbled ceramics and other crafts material, each of the selected candidates is a well-skilled craftsman, and crafts workshops represent the vitality of Taiwan's emerging craftsmanship aesthetics and an outstanding achievement in various craft disciplines.
The audition of Taiwan Crafts Workshop need to pass through three trials. First step, candidates are pre-selected by Department of Cultural Affairs from every city or county in Taiwan. Second step, NTCRI invite professional experts and scholars related to crafts to conduct second process. The final selection process will carry out on-site evaluation and the selected candidates will be Taiwan Crafts Workshops. The comprehensive evaluation including crafts achievement, characteristic, and display setup. Besides, the potential of develop community cultural creative industries, location with convenient transport and workshops environment are included on the evaluation process.
The aim of Taiwan Crafts Workshop is to promote the public to understand the Taiwanese craftsmen’ working environment and the cultural development of Taiwanese crafts, also to develop crafts tourism industry. Consolidate and cooperate with different types of crafts workshops, make crafts workshop as an important base for sightseeing and learning local crafts culture. The possibility to encourage future generations to learn crafts, to promote aesthetic education for the society and to create another high peak for the Taiwan’s crafts culture industry and inspire creative innovation.
