Crafting Sustainability, Living SLOHAS Way
A Sustainable Chapter for Taiwan Craft on the Global Stage
A Sustainable Chapter for Taiwan Craft on the Global Stage
Craftsmanship is an integral part of Taiwan’s culture that stays closest to daily life. Rooted in the focus of hands and hearts, it carries memories and responds to the spirit of our times. The National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute (NTCRI) proudly presents the inaugural "2025 Taiwan Craft Sustainability Voluntary Review." Centered on the "SLOHAS" ethos, this report translates sustainability from rigid policy indicators into everyday practice, establishing a future cultural coordinate for Taiwanese craftsmanship.
- Craft Philosophy Framework - Adopting the six dimensions of SLOHAS (Simplicity, Lifestyle, Originality, Health, Aesthetics, and Sustainability) as the core methodology, the framework aligns with the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to bridge local craft vocabulary with international benchmarks .
- NTCRI Milestones - A comprehensive record of the NTCRI transformation and practical achievements, showcasing concrete results in craft research and innovation, talent cultivation, material testing, academic publication, exhibitions and promotion, aesthetic education, craft brand certification, industry counseling, international collaboration, and local craft support.
- Focus on Material Issues - Following GRI standards, six critical issues, Information Security, Green Products and Services, Biodiversity, Product Quality and Safety, Craft Partner Privacy, and Social Welfare and Engagement, have been identified to establish the foundation for sustainable governance.
- Towards the Vision of Taiwan Craft Island - Implementing four major strategies, Strengthening Talent Cultivation, Leading Innovation & Value Addition, Cultivating Local Energy, and Promoting Industrial Growth, to progressively realize the ambitious vision of "Taiwan Craft Island."
To practice craft is to practice a composed and sustainable philosophy of life. We invite you to explore this sustainability record of our island and witness how Taiwan craft creates ripples of beauty and goodness through the convergence of diverse cultures.
