Ukan Iban was once a nimble hunter in the mountains and a remarkably skilled craftsman in the fields woven with rattan. In his early years, Ukan Iban spent much of his time hunting and working in the forest, skillfully utilizing the natural resources around him. With his resourceful hands, he transformed foraged rattan into practical and culturally significant items—such as carrying baskets, ground looms, sieves, and netted bags. These creations not only embodied the wisdom of the forest but also wove together the collective memory of his people.

Even in his seventies, he continued to create handmade gifts for friends and weaving simple yet meaningful objects filled with blessings for his grandchildren.
