The National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute (NTCRI) has long been dedicated to connecting Taiwan’s craft community with the world—preserving craft knowledge, supporting creative talent, and building international partnerships.
In 2026, NTCRI is launching the Zhongxing International Craft Village, along with its first-ever Residency Program Open Call, inviting craft artists and creators from Taiwan and around the world to live, work, experiment, and create in Zhongxing Craft Village.
Rooted in the area’s distinctive cultural landscape and local character, the Craft Village is envisioned as a vibrant hub where creative talent, craft practice, exhibitions, industry, and international exchange come together.

Program Overview
The National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute (NTCRI) has long been dedicated to promoting international craft exchange, passing on craft knowledge and skills, nurturing creative talent, and fostering international collaboration.
To further strengthen connections between international exchange, craft practice, and local communities, NTCRI is transforming a former Bank of Taiwan residential complex in Zhongxing New Village, Nantou City, approximately 3.5 km from its headquarters at the Taiwan Craft Cultural Park, into the Zhongxing International Craft Village (hereinafter referred to as the “Craft Village”).
With the launch of the Craft Village, NTCRI is also opening its first-ever Residency Program Open Call, inviting craft creators from Taiwan and around the world to live and create in Zhongxing New Village. Rooted in this unique local setting, the program offers an opportunity to explore new creative possibilities across cultures and geographical boundaries.
Drawing on the distinctive cultural landscape and local character of Zhongxing New Village, the Craft Village is envisioned as a dynamic hub for talent development, creative practice and exhibitions, industry development, and international exchange—and an important platform where craft creators from Taiwan and abroad can live, work, connect, and collaborate.

(1) Eligibility
▍Taiwan Applicants
Individuals or groups engaged in craft creation who hold R.O.C. (Taiwan) nationality.
▍International Applicants
Individual craft creators of foreign nationality or those holding a valid visa permitting residence in Taiwan. Applicants must have basic communication skills in both Chinese and English.
▍Individual Applicants
Applicants must be at least 20 years old and may not be currently enrolled as students.
▍Group Applicants
Groups must consist of two or more members and be legally registered craft-related organizations or associations in Taiwan. A maximum of three members may participate in the residency.
Group applicants must submit a portfolio demonstrating previous collaborative projects or exhibitions, along with an individual résumé/CV for each participating member. Members may not be replaced after application. All group members must hold R.O.C. (Taiwan) nationality.
(2) Number of Selected Residents
▍Taiwan: 2 individuals/groups, plus 2 alternates
▍International: 2 individuals, plus 2 alternates
NTCRI reserves the right to adjust the number of selected residents based on actual circumstances.
(3) How to Apply
Applications must be submitted online only. Applications submitted through other methods will not be accepted.
Applicants must complete Attachments 1–4 of the Application Guidelines. All application documents must be typed; handwritten applications will not be accepted. All documents must be converted to PDF format for submission.

Each attachment must not exceed 20 MB. Applicants whose submissions are incomplete will be notified and asked to provide the missing materials within a specified period. Applications that remain incomplete after the deadline, or supplementary materials submitted after the specified deadline, will not proceed to the review process.

Late applications will not be accepted.
(5) Selection Process
▍Preliminary Review
NTCRI and the program administrator will review all applications for eligibility and completeness. Applicants who meet the requirements will proceed to the final review. Applicants who do not advance to the final review will not be notified separately.
▍Final Review
NTCRI will convene a selection committee of 5–7 scholars and experts from relevant fields to conduct the final review. The selection process will be carried out objectively and fairly. To protect applicants’ privacy, selection committee meetings will not be open to the public.
(6) Support Provided by NTCRI
Selected residents will receive:
- Funding of up to NT$620,000 per individual/group, including living expenses, creative production costs, and other related expenses.
- Free use of a two-story live/work space within the Craft Village. The first floor serves as the resident’s creative workspace, while the second floor serves as living accommodation.
- Utilities provided at no cost.
- Free access, upon application, to basic small- and medium-sized equipment in four craft studios covering woodworking, metalworking, fiber arts, and ceramics, as well as complimentary consultation on the use of craft equipment.
- Additional administrative assistance and access to craft-related resources.
(7) Resident Responsibilities
Selected residents are required to:
- Complete one outdoor craft installation during the residency.
- Host at least one Open Studio event per month.
- Participate in promotional and documentation activities, provide creative materials as requested, and submit all required final project documentation.
