Craftsmanship x Diversification: Paths to Innovation

Exhibition Profile

How can the classic be refined from cultural heritage? How can diverse design concepts be incorporated into crafts for which artisanal techniques are a prerequisite? How can limitations of conventional operations and management models be broken through? When traditional crafts encounter modern life, these are the key questions that craftspeople face.

Crafts are the most reflective, sincere and touching of cultural expressions. Under changing times, industrial transitions, and rapid shifts in modern lifestyles, on this land rich in nature and culture, craftspeople are working to resolve the difficulties of preserving traditions amid contemporary lifestyles. They are injecting new ideas, transforming their works, and incorporating innovative methods. No matter if to pursue self-sufficient materials sourcing, evolution of techniques, use of new technologies or integration of innovative designs, they participate in cross-disciplinary collaborations and diverse integrated marketing strategies, to break through the stagnation in the crafts industry and welcome the energy that comes from the diverse demands of modern life.

This exhibition entitled “Craftsmanship x Diversification: Paths to Innovation” is divided into three major “paths”: “New Paths in Branding”, “Creating Time Loops” and “Road to Fashion”. Visitors are guided in understanding the production environment of contemporary craftspeople. Moreover, from the stories of 20 crafts brands, it is possible to glimpse traces of their efforts in facing modern times. Standing on this land on which they work hard and for which they have great affection, these craftspeople are like brightly colored bursts of fireworks, illuminating a path toward a sustainable future of “craftmanship and diversification”.
