The exhibition "Craft Constellation: Toward The Path of Craftsmanship" serves as a significant continuation of the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute's journey toward its 70th anniversary. Centered on the philosophy of "SLOHAS" (Sustainable, Lifestyle of Heath and Sustainability), the exhibition integrates the values of intelligence, aesthetics, and sustainability in daily life. By focusing on contemporary young artisans, it outlines their views on the universe, showcasing the vitality and progress of Taiwanese crafts, from tradition to innovation.
Viewed through the timeline of young artisans' journeys, this exhibition focuses on the pivotal phase of career development, characterized by a stable creative process and a clearer understanding of socio-economic dynamics. It aims to present a more concentrated and nuanced group portrait of young artisans. Through six thematic sections-'Crafting Everyday Objects', 'Starting with the Market', 'Self-Made Glory', 'Mastery Across Boundaries', 'Illuminating Stars' and 'The Birth of a Blue Ocean Star Map' the exhibition delves into how young artisans respond to local landscapes and emotional connections through their craft, establish diverse and multi-dimensional economic models, innovate by integrating new technologies and materials into traditional practices, project and reflect on their self-identity, refine their skills across disciplines and regions, and, at the peak of their creative energy, channel their efforts into addressing pressing social issues.
The exhibition starts by showing how young artisans draw inspiration from their everyday surroundings, gradually expanding their creative vision outward. Each artisan who chooses craftsmanship as a career reflects different aspects that connect to the six main themes of the exhibition. By combining curatorial themes with personal stories shared by the artisans and showcasing their representative works, the exhibition creates a link between the objects and the thoughts behind them. It follows the unique journeys of these contemporary artisans as they explore and grow in their craft.
