The “Taiwan Young Pottery Artist Award & Biennale” encourages young people to engage in research and creative works of ceramic art. By providing a platform for people to display their creativity and share mutual observation, the biennale has witnessed latest technological applications and modern issues being voiced out from artwork submissions. It has faithfully presented the authentic landscape formed by a new generation of ceramic artists.
As Covid-19 pandemic started to take its toll since early 2020, many ceramicists were forced to slow down their paces on producing creative works. In the age of limitation and enclosure, they have to hibernate, listen to and think through their ways out in order to be reborn and keep on going. The works of art also preserve the hidden will and sentiment. Though appearing to possess ruleless logics, the creative works demonstrate constrained ease and modesty after they break open the boundary.
The young who engage themselves in creating artworks take advantage of their newly acquainted skills and speak out restlessly their subjectivity through ceramic art. The “Rebirth,” at this juncture, is not about surreal and unworldly things. On the other hand, it is about honesty and embracing the public, which cannot be easily overlooked.
