A country is great because of its culture. “Taiwan Ctaft Competition” is the largest-scale industrial arts contest in Taiwan. Without setting limits on age, status, and experience, and regardless of material and categories, we accept all ROC citizens to join the competition, hoping to encourage craft creation and total participation in craft activities, in order to create excellent works featuring Taiwan’s unique culture.
There were 472entries running for the 2020 competition. A total of 11 experts from the craft, academic, design, and industrial circles were invited to form the jury. To show our rigor for entry evaluation, the evaluation process started from a documentary review (preliminary) and went through a work physical review before determining winners of the following prizes: one first prize, one second prize, one third prize, 5 honorable mentions, and 53 finalist awards. In addition to sponsoring the cash prizes over the past two decades or so, the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Cultural and Educational Foundation has been assisting on organizing the opening and prize presentation ceremonies and provide venues for the events. All finalist entries were displayed in Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Department Stores in northern, central, and southern Taiwan. The exhibition periods included: December 4 to December 15 in Taipei, December 19 to January4 in Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Ximen Store in Tainan, and January 7 to January 18 2021 in Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Taichung Port Store in Taichung.
Apart from the finalist entries of the competition, YE,JING-YI, winner of the 2019 Crafts Achievement Award, was invited to join the exhibitions, and 2020 Taiwan Good Crafts works were also displayed. In addition, with the support of the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Cultural and Educational Foundation and Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Department Store, the “SHING: The Good Goods Market” was held near the exhibition venue for quality design and craft brands of Taiwan to display their works. During the exhibition period, craft courses were organized for participants to explore and experience the beauty of crafts through the guidance of design and craft professionals who shared and taught in those courses.
