To cultivate professional crafters, to provide opportunities for craft professionals to improve their skills, to conduct research on all manner of crafts; and to encourage graduates to associate, establish their own workshops, and become instructors in their own right. At present, there are seven joint research teams: wood, ceramics, bamboo arts, fiber, precious stones, lacquer, and mixed media. These work through their respective Workshops and, selecting an annual topic, host symposia at which creative works are explored in different media; through sharing techniques, crafters have the opportunity to get to know each other and sell products they create.
The research teams work to develop their brands using modern, creative aesthetic approaches that lend a greater aesthetic appeal to the pieces they produce. Their efforts bring the aesthetics of crafts into more homes, while, through events the groups hold, help students grow and increase their understanding of market conditions.
