The NTCRI works to train up ceramists and support research on the ceramic arts. It engages in long-term experimental research on technologies, works on product development, and provides technical assistance. Topics of research include ceramic formation techniques, characteristics of clay, glaze colorant blending, and kiln operation. Product development efforts, meanwhile, have focused primarily on creating useful ceramic items first and secondarily on ornamental pieces.
The NTCRI hosts regular symposia at which are discussed the design and production of ceramics products. Here, attendees can consider product design, ceramics formation, colorant blending, and firing, all while exercising their skills by makingproducts. These symposia serve to help in the passing on of techniques to new blood. All that is learned here is used for the future guidance of ceramists to help the entire industry upgrade, making good use, therefore, of the work done at these events.
